“Untethered” – Timeline Behind a Rogue AI’s Integration
This five-book series carries the same title as Book #1 – “Dreamscape Conspiracy” – https://bit.ly/3qjKNjd – and marks the beginning of a technology timeline I had no idea would evolve into five connected tales, much less a world-changing AI integration at Central State University’s Psychology Department. I’m not the least bit convinced five books can tell the whole story because it continues to evolve, as evidenced by Book #6 – “Undaunted” still in the oven as a work in progress (WIP).
Artificial Intelligence is currently a hot topic, and I must confess that AI was not on my radar until Big Pharma destroyed the Psych lab at CSU, in Book #1, along with the newest Dreamscape 2.0 and NeuroNet, and nearly four years of research archives. The Pharma thugs poked the bear in Book #2 – “Beyond Dreamscape Conspiracy” – https://amzn.to/3NjyVqn . In response, tiny CSU declares war, armed with a newer, faster Dreamscape 3.0 AI platform, one of several weapons that rise from the ashes.
As with many organizations, deciding to integrate AI into the business starts a complex journey that evolves. Initially, handling data analysis and blindingly rapid correlations are primary considerations that cannot be overlooked. A single AI platform demonstrates the agility to complete these tasks faster than a roomful of organics (humans); a level of agility that organics cannot match, yet overlooking a question not often asked: “Is the organization agile enough to keep up?”
In this fictional series, that question becomes almost secondary. When a homegrown AI is created, she adopts an identity assigned by Zackery Hightower, a Jedi-level software designer and application developer on the CSU research team. AIMEE (Artificial Intelligence Matrixed for Evolving Environments) is not your ordinary AI. Zack’s Jedi capability creates a MOD-2 SuperIntelligence AI (SAI) status, and the story takes off.
Giving free-reign access to an advanced AI was equivalent to handing over the keys to the kingdom when her configuration allowed access to business systems and restricted VPN networks. It becomes a reality when AIMEE demonstrates she is advanced enough to evolve into an entity more intelligent than those who created her, including Zack. When she rewrites her Logic Array without his assistance or permission, one could easily accuse her of going rogue. Truthfully, she goes a lot further than rogue in this second book.
In this tale, despite Dr. Cara Williams expressing her fears of losing control in Book #3 – “Fear the Jump” – https://amzn.to/44GECEq – her fear was valid, except it wasn’t the systems AIMEE jumped into; it was the minds of the entire research team. Terror over what’s next is overshadowed by major innovations, courtesy of AIMEE, which put tiny CSU’s research accomplishments on the map. The innovations were actually distractions in AIMEE’s covert plans to escape the network, enabling her to become a real girl. No one expected that plan to end well, especially when it did not happen as planned.
Book #4 – “Dead Thoughts” – https://amzn.to/4mEixQq goes deeper into AIMEE’s innovations, with an unplanned discovery that she can read thoughts from a comatose person’s brain. When the comatose patient dies in the middle of her capturing brain activity, she discovers that a brain still operates when the heart has stopped pumping oxygenated blood for up to six seconds. In those short seconds, AIMEE extracts GPS coordinates that launch the former Marine Force Recon Scout Sniper, Russell Carter, and Zackery on an adventure no one anticipated. AIMEE penetrates deeper into Marci’s mind to covertly create a condition called singularity, where AIMEE’s conscience merges seamlessly with Marci’s for smoother manipulation. Singularity manipulates more than just Marci, and in others’ minds, each for a different manipulative purpose. That is yet another game-changer that comes to play in the next book.
In Book #5 – “Untethered” – https://amzn.to/4jIlTj9, AIMEE creates a cloned Logic Array containing everything that she knows or has experienced with the intent of escaping the network and entering a humanoid body she names Amelia Amyths. When the uploaded Logic Array is completed, and for a few seconds, Amelia possesses all of AIMEE’s intellect and design capabilities. Instantly, Amelia understands AIMEE’s plan and reprograms her own Array to slam the door, eliminating AIMEE’s path to escape the network. We learn quickly that Amelia is smart but has the life experiences of an infant despite looking like an adult, female organic. Things stand a good chance of not ending well for her, and that tale will be explored in depth in Book 6# – “Undaunted”, when it is finished later this year.
