Author Thoughts Today “Puye Prophecy” Connecting Dots – 092225

Despite the A/C pumping cool air into the cabin of the Imperial, the black exterior and matching leather seats absorbed the brutal West Texas heat like a sponge. Katherine was comfortable enough temperature-wise, but her parched throat prompted her to make finding a large glass of iced tea a priority. A rundown service station with a dilapidated diner at the next exit looked like an oasis, promising cold drinks. The attached diner had a sign touting the coldest drinks in Texas. The tea was the coldest, and served up by a shriveled old Indian woman named Desert Breeze. Kat considered the old woman harmless until she called her by name. Full stop.

When the woman told her how pleased she was that Big Crow with Little Feet’s earlier announcement had been true, saying Kat would arrive that very day, Kat began to tense. At this point, she knew nothing about Big Crow because she had never seen him physically manifested, despite his covert presence…so far.

Learning details of her role in the prophecy as the old woman provided the back story, Kat’s mind quickly became overwhelmed, and she pushed the panic button, rose on shaky knees, and headed for the door. She never made it because her world changed abruptly and left her writhing in the throes of unexplained ecstasy on the floor of the diner.

None of what the old woman shared made any sense…until pieces of her meaningless dreams began to connect. If any of it was true, Kat was in for the ride of her life, and for argument’s sake, had no interest in participating in what Desert Breeze told her. Leaving in a rage, Kat barely heard Desert Breeze tell her she would meet Big Crow with Little Feet very soon. Kat begged to differ. Kat was incorrect and was shortly kidnapped by Big Crow to accomplish what Desert Breeze had described as her role in the prophecy.

As it turns out, hours later, Kat does meet Big Crow in person for the first time. She knew who he was the instant she smelled his smoke. Kat drove Big Crow to the Puye Ruins against her will. Oddly enough, Big Crow’s presence had a calming effect on her, revealing less angst and a greater sense of compliance as her hostage situation began to be less threatening, though no less terrifying. Big Crow exuded a growing feeling of safety even before she saw him as her protector.

The confrontation on the high mesa, if she had ever been on top of the mesa, was a blur with the so-called virtual union with Eagle Shadow. Disorientation gave way to anger, and Kat decided to return to the diner and confront the old woman to learn what else was in her future. That was a good plan until Kat’s return to the diner turned out to be a complete bust. The diner was abandoned and had been for years. The only other thing that had been abandoned was a mug of tea left on the counter in the diner.
