Meet Marci Patterson, a post-graduate doctoral student and social media expert on the CSU research team. Marci is 30, single, and intends to stay that way. She is the quiet team member unless co-worker Wayne Fitzpatrick pushes one of her buttons. Marci is politely tolerant of Wayne’s juvenile behavior but has a soft spot for the lug when she has to save him from himself.

She is a brilliant storyteller and has the same quick wit as Wayne, so there is this unspoken connection between them that she does not encourage but can often find room to tease him in return.

Social media marketing is Marci’s strong suit, and her responsibility is to communicate progress and post press announcements to a vast network of news and academic media sites of the innovative dream research efforts at CSU. Her writing skills helped put little CSU on the map.

On the surface, she is an outstanding writer, but inside, she feels her skills are underappreciated, especially by her boss, Dr. Cara Williams. Her growing discontent was fertile ground for a near-miss intimate exchange with a new ex-Pharma team member, Jeanine Broussard.

Marci never saw it coming, and when Jeanine landed on her lips, she had nothing left in her, with neither the presence of mind nor the strength to push back, disrupting everything she knew about herself and, at the same time, questioning whether she really did know.

She never considered herself naive, nor did she seek to understand what had happened, but what Jeanine did rocked her to the core. The rush of emotions blinded her; prospects of big money and a wild, lavish life in New York City with Jeanine consumed her and clouded her judgment. With no warning, she made plans to walk away from CSU and what had been a rock-solid team relationship since the beginning of their research charter. Her decision to leave was entirely out of character for her.

Big Pharma assassins ended that potential relationship when they murdered Jeanine, severely wounding Marci, and leaving her for dead. She recovered and rejoined the team, but her heart was laced with the grief of loss and the burning need for revenge.

She used her marketing skills to craft an ingenious social media threat that promised broad exposure to the Big Pharma conspirators behind the violence against CSU. Russ Carter, the former Marine Sniper, had his guns, but Marci knew she had powerful weapons too —the written word. She brought those skills into the picture by creating a brilliantly scathing marketing communication campaign that served as a hedge against pharmaceutical pressures, and she never had to fire a shot.

Could Marci and Wayne be an item? She was four years older than Wayne, eighteen years if we consider Wayne’s level of maturity. In most interactions between Marci and Wayne, there was usually an opportunity to swap barbs and insults in a good-natured way. It was hard to tell who was most proficient at dissing the other until Wayne shocked her to the point where she might have peed a little. From that point, it was game on, and no holds were barred.

AIMEE manages to imprint on Marci’s mind and resorts to a conspiracy of her own to discourage any potential relationship with Wayne. An experiment architected by AIMEE to promote the path Jeanine had tempted Marci to follow was an epic failure when Marci squashed any thoughts that she might be a couple… with anyone.
