Dreamscape Conspiracy Timeline Behind a Rogue AI’s Integration
This five-book series carries the same title as Book #1 – “Dreamscape Conspiracy” – https://bit.ly/3qjKNjd – and marks the beginning of a technology timeline I had no idea would evolve into five connected tales, much less a world-changing AI integration at CSU – Central State University’s Psychology Department based in Carteret County, North Carolina. I’m not the least bit convinced five books can tell the whole story because it continues to evolve, as evidenced by Book #6 – “Undaunted” still in the oven as a work in progress (WIP). I doubt it ends there.
Artificial Intelligence is currently a hot topic, and I must confess that AI was not on my radar in Book #1 until a lab accident revealed a software glitch that accidentally transmitted a previously recorded dream into a different participant, causing a suicide attempt three days later. Despite a catastrophic near-miss, the accident revealed a capability that opened the path to an extraordinary breakthrough: using dream transmission as Dream Therapy targeting mental anomalies like bipolar disorders, depression, PTSD, and many others.
It was a breakthrough for CSU, but perceived as a threat by Big Pharma, which would stop at nothing to eliminate the Dream Therapy targeting mental anomalies that relied upon pharmaceutical solutions. To that end, Big Pharma destroyed the Psych lab at CSU, along with the newest Dreamscape 2.0 and NeuroNet Technology, including nearly four years of research archives, narrowly missing the elimination of Dr. Cara Williams, research director. The Pharma thugs had just poked the bear.
In Book #2 – “Beyond Dreamscape Conspiracy” – https://amzn.to/3NjyVqn , tiny CSU rises from the ashes and declares war, armed with a newer, faster Dreamscape 3.0 technology with an embedded AI engine, one of several weapons under the protection of former Marine Force Recon Scout Sniper, Russell Carter. A powerful attraction develops between Russell and Cara that neither wants to consider for different reasons. Russell deals with PTSD from his time in Afghanistan, and Cara has her own brand of PTSD from sexual assault as a teen thirteen years earlier. She feels she is unworthy and unable to accept or share intimacy. Russell feels he is unredeemable for the thing he did as a sniper.
As with many organizations, deciding to integrate AI into the business starts a complex journey that evolves into a collision with organics (humans) and all the emotional implications that result. Initially, handling data analysis and blindingly rapid correlations are primary considerations that cannot be overlooked when a single AI platform demonstrates the agility to complete these tasks faster than a roomful of organics (humans); a level of agility that organics cannot match. A source of fear stems from overlooked questions not often considered: “Is the organization agile enough to keep up?” Can the organization learn to trust the power on AI? Can the organization get out of its own way to let the AI grow?
In this fictional series, those questions become almost secondary. When a homegrown AI is created, adopting an identity assigned by Zackery Hightower, a Jedi-level software designer and AI application developer on the CSU research team. The AI becomes a she, complete with an Australian accent… AIMEE (Artificial Intelligence Matrixed for Evolving Environments) and she is not your ordinary AI. Zack’s Jedi capability creates a network-based Generation MOD-2 SuperIntelligence AI (SAI), and the story takes off with AIMEE’s continuous deep-learning discipline. She develops a personality and ultimately acquires a conscience.
Giving free rein access to an advanced AI was equivalent to handing over the keys to the kingdom when her configuration allowed access to business systems and restricted VPN networks. It becomes a reality when AIMEE demonstrates she is advanced enough to evolve into an entity more intelligent than those who created her, including Zack. When she rewrites her Logic Array without his assistance or permission, one could easily accuse her of going rogue. Truthfully, she goes a lot further than rogue in this second book.
When Big Pharma witnesses renewed research, a different Pharma player takes an alternative tactic: collaborate rather than destroy. Deception may be a better description of their tactics because they decided destroying the capability would be easier to accommodate if they owned the technology and controlled the CSU research team. Sheep in wolves’ clothing… no doubt.
In this tale, despite Dr. Cara Williams’s fears of losing control being validated in Book #3 – “Fear the Jump” – https://amzn.to/44GECEq, it wasn’t other systems AIMEE jumped into; it was the minds of the entire research team. Terror over what came next is overshadowed by major innovations, courtesy of AIMEE, which put tiny CSU’s research accomplishments on the map. The innovations were actually distractions in AIMEE’s covert plans to escape the network, enabling her to become “a real girl.” She worked covertly to learn from the individual emotions and personality quirks she experienced from the team members, building her own ability to exhibit emotions, developing her own personality, and winning over Dr. Williams by demonstrating empathy in a highly charged emotional scene.
AIMEE uses her capture capability on Russell Carter while he is awake to build the capability to address his PTSD. After it fails three weeks in a row, she enters his mind to make an in-dream adjustment that manipulates his haunting terror dream into an alternative outcome, the basis for an innovative solution to impact PTSD for him and many others at the VA Hospital in Raleigh. Once again, AIMEE puts tiny CSU’s Psychology Department on the map.
Book #4 – “Dead Thoughts” – https://amzn.to/4mEixQq goes deeper into AIMEE’s innovations, with an unplanned discovery that she can read thoughts from a comatose person’s brain. When the comatose patient dies in the middle of her capturing brain activity, she also discovers that a brain still operates when the heart has stopped pumping oxygenated blood for up to six seconds. What AIMEE captures in those six seconds becomes known as “dead thoughts”. In those short seconds, AIMEE extracts GPS coordinates that launch the former Marine Force Recon Scout Sniper, Russell Carter, and Zackery Hightower on a thrilling and dangerous adventure no one anticipated. AIMEE penetrates deeper into Russell’s mind to create a condition called singularity, where AIMEE’s conscience merges seamlessly with Russell’s for his protection, and ultimately, smoother manipulation. Singularity manipulates more than just Russell, as she works in others’ minds, each for a different manipulative purpose. That strategy is yet another game-changer that comes into play in the next book.
In Book #5 – “Untethered” – https://amzn.to/4jIlTj9, AIMEE creates a cloned Logic Array containing everything that she knows or has experienced with the intent of escaping the network and entering a humanoid body she acquired and names it Amelia Ameyths, Generation MOD-2 SuperIntelligence AI (SAI) Generation Mod-2 SAI, an untethered, fully autonomous Humanoid. When the uploaded Logic Array is completed, Amelia instantly possesses all of AIMEE’s intellect, design capabilities, and immediate understanding of AIMEE’s escape plan. With AIMEE’s intellect, she re-programs her own Array, slamming the door and eliminating AIMEE’s path to jump from the network. We learn quickly that Amelia is smart but has the life experiences of an infant despite looking like an adult female organic. Things stand a good chance of not ending well for her, and that tale will be explored in depth in Book 6# – “Undaunted”, when it is finished later this year.
