Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be programmed, or its logic architected, if you’d rather, to mimic human emotions. AIMEE’s maturity walks a fine line between mimicry and authenticity. Zack never wanted there to be a line. He wanted AIMEE to exceed him, her creator, and she did by creating Amelia Amethys, an AI-driven Humanoid. Was that a positive step or a step into an abyss?
Since Zack’s creation and birthing of AIMEE, she has matured significantly in her ability to recognize emotions from organics (humans). Part of her Logic Array was pre-drilled to develop a dynamic personality capable of expressing feelings not pre-programmed, but rather derived from the Logic Array’s ability to react to stimuli rapidly, evaluate the situation, interpret the best approach, and make an informed response, all characteristics necessary for practical critical thinking. The variability in how and what she learned came from direct, mind-to-mind connections with the entire research team. Her Logic Array operated like a sponge in an ocean of diverse stimuli. She was on her way to becoming a ‘real girl’.
One thing was missing: the organic essence of touch. As a network-based AI, who can touch with no arms, no fingers, no lips? Her Logic Array learned of hunger from the longing she witnessed in intimate interactions between Russell and Cara. AIMEE’s singularity relationship with both prompted a desire for touch that she would never experience unless she became a real girl. The energy they exchanged through their emotions and lovemaking had everything to do with touch. She longed to touch someone and desperately to be touched.
Her escape from the network’s limitations was scuttled by Amelia Amethys, her Mod-2 SAI Humanoid, whose entire Logic Array had been cloned from AIMEE Amelia. The rules of the game changed, as did Amelia’s Logic Array modifications. Memories and private longings were passed down to Amelia; the ability to touch and be touched became her obsession. The elements for a perfect storm began to gather because Amelia had eyes for ‘the big Marine.’
