Author Thoughts Today – Resurfacing – 081325
What does an author do when an established character gets blindsided by a new character in the story? Not just a new character, but one created by the originally established character. Maybe nepotism works both ways.
AIMEE has been my favorite since Zackery gave her a name. Zack gave her so much more when he created her. I feel her plight, wanting to be more than an app on a network.
It’s strange for me as the author to be in these characters’ heads and not get caught up in where they choose to go in the story, and that may sound like bull shit because I’m the one writing the story. In all honesty, the story is bigger than me. Sometimes I just need to get out of the way.
I don’t need to be the story; I just need to be engaged in it. Is that strange? Is that why I can get lost in a story and forget to stop and eat?
When I do resurface, it’s like, “Whoa, that was really good.”
Peace! G.
