Wrong Hands Laid – “Beyond Dreamscape Conspiracy”

After the meal, Cara and Russ climbed back into his Bronco to head home. Before he could fire up the engine, Cara asked accusingly, “So, how many times did that bitch lay hands on you?” Cara never mentioned a name, but he knew exactly who she meant.

“What? Lay hands? What do you mean by lay hands?” replied Russ, a wave of irritation rising. “Hold on a second, Cara; I’m not some poor abandoned man begging for a woman to touch me because I’m already suffering from the betrayal of an unfaithful lover. What the fuck, Cara? You tell me. I don’t need to be touched by some strange woman.”

“You do.” Cara fired back with a different kind of anger. “You do need the right hands on you. Tell me, Marine, how many times did this Broussard bitch lay hands on you? Tell me! Twice? Three times? How many children do you want to have with her? Huh? How many?”

“Jesus, Cara, where is this coming from? Is this a jealous streak I’m seeing for the first time, or are you legitimately bat-shit crazy? She might have accidentally touched my hand when she placed her napkin, but, damn, she apologized for that. Where is this coming from?  What am I missing?”

“You’re clueless, Russell. She touched you at least three times that I saw, and they were as intentional as hell. Truly, you are as clueless as a man can be.” Her jealous anger was not slowing.

When she spoke his full name, he knew it did not bode well for his future. How do you defend what’s indefensible? You’d think a future date had been planned to sleep with the woman.

What triggered this moment he was embroiled in over an innocent meal…in public…in front of Cara? Had he done something wrong? Warning flags waved beyond his ability to discern any semblance of truth.

Cara continued to roll, “That woman, Dr. Broussard, is a snake. I cannot put my finger on it, but there is too much momentum coming from her for us to capitulate to her bidding. Maybe I’m wrong, but this all smells like trouble.

Too much good and way too easy. And yes, she did cross a line, and I noticed that her touch was more to her liking than mine. So, hear me when I say this: Stand down, Marine!”
