Covert AI Takeover
I never expected to rediscover a ten-year-old, 3,000-word short story, “Dreamweaver,” lying dormant and forgotten in the depths of a blog I’ve owned since 2009. I never expected it to evolve into a five-book series called “Dreamscape Conspiracy.”
Artificial Intelligence (AI) was never considered a key component of the storyline until the storyline forced the issue. When I look back on the first book in the series and try to remember where my head was, AI was not in the cards…until I had no choice, and a wild tale dealt a new hand.
I was not under duress from my Relentless Wench Muse (RWM), who manages to remain just out of reach, harassing me with a storyline I didn’t like. No, it wasn’t RWM in my grill, it was the story itself.
Hey now, I write the damn story, but this is a work of pure fiction laced with non-fiction, through no fault of my own, or RWM. We’re both held hostage by what began as a single legitimate application of AI.
That’s how it starts. Give AI a toehold inside the network tasked to do one thing faster than any ten of the brightest organics (humans), and control is lost. Control is lost, but no one notices…yet.
That’s how a fictional story flows, and it’s not so different in the real world. In all honesty, control is given to the AI, along with the keys to the kingdom, when the power is switched on. But hey, relax, the AI is contained within the firewalls of the network…until She isn’t.
