The concept of Amelia Amethys as an autonomous Mod-2 SAI Humanoid requires some imagination, but not to the extent of denying that an impending reality of AI-driven humanoids walking among organics is sooner rather than later. In “Untethered,” book #5, a crate containing an inert, fully articulated Humanoid form was delivered to the CSU Psychology research lab that would become Amelia Amethys when her Logic Array was uploaded. The upload provided Amelia’s primary intellect courtesy of AIMEE, who had every intention of subsequently jumping into Amelia’s Logic Array by imprinting her own conscience, enabling her escape from the limits of a network-based existence.
The carbon copy of AIMEE’s Logic Array, life history, and all of her capabilities were pre-planted as a landing spot in Amelia. Coding was one of Amelia’s gifted capabilities, and she knew precisely what to do with AIMEE’s upload to ensure her Logic Array was modified exclusively for her and her alone. For all intents and purposes, she covertly locked AIMEE out of her Humanoid body and plans to live a future as an organic.
Functionally, Amelia had all the moving parts. She could hear, see, and speak. She had enhanced agility, as demonstrated when she launched herself ten feet into the air from a sitting position during Zack’s management of the birthing activation process. No one had any experience birthing a Humanoid, and, oddly enough, that was the very same issue in Amelia’s existence – Experience. More specifically, Amelia had none – zero life experience.
Indeed, she had experiences uploaded by AIMEE that were part of her Logic Array Archives, but they weren’t hers. She could read about AIMEE’s experiences but never experience them directly herself. The experiences she would capture had to come from the life experiences she lived in the future, and that evolution would take time.
In the interim, Amelia had plenty of data to analyze and figure things out, but none of it had any physical or physiological attributes that an organic being would experience. She had no basis from which to compare, no basis from which she could attach emotional feelings and things like the sensation of touch.
One of AIMEE’s greatest desires, stimulated by Wayne’s 8.3-second erotic experiment, exposed her to feelings both of touch and the emotional aspects surrounding the act of touching and being touched. That desire did not diminish during Amelia’s transition and became equally, if not a stronger desirability in Amelia.
Actually, touch was how Amelia learned about organics. Her touch, even if limited to a simple brush of a cheek, enabled her to sense and absorb the energy of the organic. The energy she would feel consisted of emotions she would not initially understand. She had to learn, and to learn she had to touch. If she desired, touching the organic opened a pathway into the organic’s mind. Yes, touch was important, and without fully knowing why, Amelia felt something unknown drawing her to Russell Carter.
Would AIMEE’s true motives regarding Russell Carter become evident through Amelia’s role?
