As a new author, I am crushing…the category of Unknown Author, having an unknown destination but making really good time. Looking back over the last fifteen months, my time has been well-spent with several novels written and posted to Amazon for safekeeping because nobody appears to be reading any of them. There have been a few, and I thank those souls, but a new Harley must wait a while longer.
Now, my challenge is to get known for telling a good story. You might ask why I waited fifteen months to get serious about marketing. It sounds like you got the cart before the horse there, bud!
I can see that argument, but then my brain runs on the logic that says to wait on marketing until you have something to market. Being behind a horse pulling me in a cart might be best practice, but find for me whoever set the standard that had ever ridden in a cart behind a horse. I’ll wait…
Me? I wanted something in the cart, so I waited and did what I loved – I wrote story after story through the heads and hearts of people I made up, and I have all that evidence layered across five novels.
The challenge now is to get my books to readers who like my stuff so more readers will want more books. That’s the end game and easier said than done, for this camper.
Now, I need to do what I confess is my least favorite thing: not writing anything meaningful…to pursue marketing-like things. That said, what came to life this morning was the first fruit blessing.
Thanks to Fantasy/Sci-Fi Focus (FSFF) on FaceBook for recognizing “Dreamscape Conspiracy” as Book of the Day. As a new author, I look forward to the Author Takeover forum event on January 31 at 3:30 PM EST.
This story’s track has taken over and amazed me. What started as a short story of 3,000 words six years ago resurfaced in the hands of my Muse, and She thrust it out at me and said in her soft Aussie female accent, “There’s more here, mate. Finish this!”
I’m a sucker for an Australian accent, so I followed Her lead and finished the story, only to discover three more books would follow to share this intriguing tale. I am still determining where it ends because I’m writing book #5 for release later this winter. It has been quite a ride, and with Artificial Intelligence (AI) showing up in book three, quiet little Central State University (CSU) is not so quiet, and the AI named AIMEE – Artificial Intelligence Matrixed for Evolving Environments respects no boundaries on her quest to become a real girl.
Yeah, that’s where my head is at this afternoon. She’s here…no sudden moves…
Peace. G.
