Early in 2023, I self-published my first thriller novel, “Mirror Mirror – Halloween Party of the Century.” Flush with visions of buying a bass boat with the revenues from book sales, I soon learned there would be no boat nor the revenues I had hoped for. What I accomplished was proof that becoming an Indie author and self-publishing had to either be something I pursued for fun or therapy. Turns out it was a little of both and would never be about money.
Some would ask, so why bother?
It’s part of my DNA, apparently…and it keeps me out of jail.
My grandfather was a master storyteller, and my father was a brilliant bullshit artist. That lineage explains my genetic predisposition to tell a good story with appropriate embellishments and well-placed lies to ensure readers will appreciate a good story if they read my work. The operative phrase is “if they read my work.” Since I’d rather write for the therapeutic enjoyment of readers than run a marketing business, I’ve made a pivotal decision to give “Mirror Mirror” away on my website.
The objective of this change of tactic is to introduce readers to me – an unknown author of action thrillers. In the case of “Mirror Mirror,” the thrill has a paranormal spin and opportunistic but unreliable time travel orchestrated by an interdimensional being. One reviewer labeled the book as horror, but I don’t agree. Creepy and bizarre, sure, but not horror. Plenty of twists that help turn the pages – so enjoy!
